Cloud Wars
Now, Walmart is telling some partners and suppliers that their software services should not run on Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The report quoted Bob Muglia, CEO of Snowflake Computing, saying that a Walmart (WMT, +0.93%) partner wanted to use his company’s data warehouse service, but was told it had to run on Microsoft (MSFT, +0.51%) Azure cloud instead of AWS.

I’ve come across this; you can’t sell to Walmart if you’re on AWS.

This sounds like an attempt to abuse market influence to gain advantage in an unrelated market sector.

Andres Soolo It’s not that at all. It’s that Walmart doesn’t want its own data (including its supply chain etc) stored in its competitor’s computer system. Otherwise Amazon could data mine that stuff, and know things about Walmart that Walmart would rather keep private.
