I think I prefer polymer 2 to polymer 3. I’m unsure about writing HTML inside JS…

It’s either one or the other but at least it’s real HTML and not JSX.
My talk was about how you don’t actually need polymer to do custom elements or even to build your webapp. You can do everything you need using lit-html and some plain vanilla JavaScript. This is the value proposition of hyperHtml too which predates lit-html and pioneered this approach.
Bottom line: You don’t need no virtual Dom, you don’t really need a framework either.
