To be fair, Netflix will take a bit of a hit on mobile because of 3G data charges.

I would have thought more people use Spotify on Mobiles compared to NetFlix.

David Megginson I never watch Netflix on my phone, but still open the app to Chromecast 😉

I cannot remember the last time I used G+ on a desktop.

I wonder if automatic photo syncing in the background also gets counted as G+ usage.

Yes, that is surprising. I mean, I love g+ and its app, but I’m surprised it’s that popular, given all the ghost town stories.

I think the ghost town stories are from people with a stake in having us believe them, but still, it’s worth making a couple of points:
1. The Google+ app is preinstalled on all Android devices that have the official Google app suite (that is, pretty-much everything but the cheap AOSP devices from the developing world).
2. As soon as you start taking pictures, your Android phone offers to sync them with Google. To do so, you end up using the Google+ app (even if you don’t realise what it is).
I love Google+, and I love it precisely because it doesn’t have as many users as Twitter or Facebook. I figure we already have the bulk of the signal on G+, so any more users we added would be mostly noise.

Photo sync isn’t part of Google+ any more. It was moved to Google Photos, which launched in May. And the actual syncing was always handled by Google Play Services anyway, so I can’t imagine they would have counted photo syncing as Google+ usage.

Oh wait — so I can uninstall the G+ app and use the mobile web site instead, without losing photo syncing? +2

Jeff Rago That’s unique opens per month, so not sure what else might be the case beyond that.

David Megginson Its app opens as far as I know. Per month though.
